Modes

quality (60 hz screens): 1800p to 4K PSSR2/TAA at a basically locked 30fps.

quality (120 hz screens): 1440p to 4K PSSR2/TAA at a mostly stable 40fps (dips to mid 30s in effect-heavy scenes).

performance: 1260p to 4K PSSR2/TAA at a mostly stable 60fps (dips to low 50s in effect-heavy scenes) on 60 HZ screens. Usually around 75-85fps (depending on upscaler) on 120 Hz screens. Worse LoDs than other modes and distant enemies still update at 30fps.

Extra Information

For quality mode, ensure the performance mode toggle isn't activated in settings. The quality mode (or if performance mode caps to 60fps) will then be determined by your screen Hz. Pro uses PSSR2 or TAA to upscale to 4K. PSSR2 resolves a sharper, cleaner, and more stable image, especially in motion with less ghosting and has more detailed sub-pixel elements like stubble. However, TAA has a more stable 40/60fps and averages around 6fps higher when the framerate is uncapped.

Base PS5 has the same modes, but at lower internal res (1440p, 1260p, and 1080p respectively) and only upscales via TAA. This results in a blurrier image compared to the equivalent mode on Pro. Base PS5 performance mode is especially worse as it only upscales to 1440p (more aliasing/breakup), has a less stable 60fps that dips to high 30s in effect-heavy scenes scenes, and its uncapped mode is around 2fps worse than PSSR2. Though its 40fps mode is more stable.
